Why don't you do the same with your body? That's right, there is no manual telling us how to take care of the body, and no oil light that comes on either. But what we do have is widespread omega 3 fatty acid (the 'oil') deficiency in North America. Most symptoms include include fatigue, poor memory, mood swings, depression as well as dry skin, heart problems and poor circulation.
There is an over abundance of omega-6 fatty acid 'oil' in our body, easily consumed in the typical North American diet. (A balance of omega 6 to 3 should be somewhere near 4:1 or lower. Typical western diets are closer to 15 or 16:1 or worse). A balance is key, but your body needs to change its oil to include more omega-3's found in fish like mackerel, herring, sardines, albacore tuna, and salmon and in plant sources like algae, krill and nuts.
How does this oil change benefit you? You can reduce the inflammation in your body (less aches and pain), you can lower your risk of chronic disease (like heart disease, cancer, arthritis), you can improve your cognitive health (better memory and performance), get better skin (less dry flaky skin) and you can improve your mood (helps in depression and other mental health issues like ADHD, seasonal affective disorder).
So consider this: Get an 'oil change' for your own body, just as you would for your vehicle, and maybe it will run a little bit (or a lot!) better than it did before!
